  • Doubling Up

I apologize for the gap between posts -- I've been unusually busy lately as we went through our final preparations for the HealthVault Solutions Conference.  Oh yeah, I also had the Escape from Alcatraz the day before the conference.  Needless to say, I spent lots of time on the phone, writing email and participating in LiveMeetings ...

  • Seoul Survivor

I just got back from a memorable trip to Seoul for yesterday's ITU Asian Cup race.  At least I *think* it was yesterday -- we flew over the International Date Line about 16 hours ago so I'm not really sure what day of the week it is anymore. Let's get the race details out of the way first: I put a lot of effort into it but the body just ...

  • life on the edge

Endurance athletes often talk about riding that edge between the most high-quality training that you can handle and getting hurt.  I may have pushed it a touch too far last week -- something in the neighborhood of my left knee has been hurting intermittently since last Tuesday.  My first thought is IT band but we'll see what my ...

  • Back on my feet

This morning the doc cleared me to start running again.  Look out, I'm back!  Well technically I'm back to 20 minutes of walk+jog but I should be back to real run training within two weeks.  I am sticking with my 6:30am swim routine after a 4-day holiday weekend.  I also brought our CompuTrainer in for service and now ...

  • a minor(?) setback

I went to see Dr Adams today about my foot and while the x-ray was negative he recommended that I don't run/jump/pound on it for three weeks and we'll see if the pain goes away.  So it's better news than "6-8 weeks off plus a bunch of rehab."  So I can keep up my swimming and replace the running with some extra bike ...

  • back pain... more swim and run...

been away from the computer a lot lately.  I tweaked my back while working in the yard 2.5 weeks ago and have made many trips to the doctor & to the physical therapist since then.  Fun times...  after my post-Kelowna recovery I've been picking up my swim and run volume a bit in preparation for the late-season draft-legal ...

  • baby steps

I got outside and ran on solid ground yesterday for the first time in 7 weeks!  Woohoo!  I walked down the sidewalk to a nearby park (sidewalk = hard surface = bad) and then jogged on the trail there to get to the soccer field.  I ran laps on the padded-but-even astroturf for about 20 minutes at a heart rate of about 130bpm before ...

  • good news from the doc

I met with Dr Adams today and I'm clear to pick up the impact level on my swim, bike and run.  I can start mixing in some two-footed push-offs on the swim.  I can start using clipless pedals and riding longer or harder (but not all three at once!).  I'm going to try out the underwater treadmill tomorrow and if all goes well ...

  • more swimming... doctor checkup tomorrow

I sawm 6 out of 7 days this week.  Not too shabby.  Also got in some good lifting sessions.  Watched a bike race.  Attended a charity auction for the Marymoor Velodrome and continued to get ready for the BikeWorks auction next week. Excellent produce run today: strawberries, bananas, oranges, apples, pistachios, tomatoes, ...

  • still injured, but a bright spot on the horizon

On the down side, I'm still on a restricted-activity routine... one-fotted swimming, short/easy rides with flat pedals, no running...  but I am getting a lot of lifting in. But on the up side, Marky V and I just booked a trip to AUSTIN!!!  Woohoooooo!  I'll need to be 100% healthy by mid-April so we can fill the days with ...
