Training Camp Summary
Now that I am on my way back to Seattle, let's do a quick roll-up of what I did in Boulder. The last three days were a bit light as I had to head out of town on business, so focusing on the first 3 weeks of the trip: 18 swim sessions; 68k yards;

The High Country in Pictures
I went on a fun 100-mile ride three days ago -- Boulder to Lyons to Estes Park, past Raymond and Ward to Nederland and then back down to Boulder. The 20 miles from Lyons to Estes Park included a 15-mile climb and a 4-mile descent, then it was another

Thirty-Three Hours
Ever wonder how much you'd be able to train if you didn't have to go to work every day? I now know my own answer to that question. (Well, sort of ... I worked remotely from Boulder for about 25 hours last week -- so more flexibility than usual

Boulder Rocks!
I've been living the high life for three days now and I have to say that it's gorgeous out here. Lots of mountain views, bike lanes and sunshine. They do seem to get a few more afternoon T-storms than I'm accustomed to but you can plan around

Tips from the Pros: How top athletes stay in shape
I just found a link to the article that Jennifer Donohue recently wrote for Outdoors NW magazine. She interviewed a mix of elite endurance athletes in the Pacific Northwest (including yours truly) and got their ideas on how to mix training with

life on the edge
Endurance athletes often talk about riding that edge between the most high-quality training that you can handle and getting hurt. I may have pushed it a touch too far last week -- something in the neighborhood of my left knee has been hurting intermittently

Training update: running is hard
I've been shying away from listing my training details on this blog after reading Greg's comments about how boring these posts tend to be. But I *am* one of those people who is "obsessed with how other triathletes are training" and I

boring training summary
I will do a follow-up post on some recent races, but for a quick training summary: Week of 25 Feb - 2 Mar: four swim workouts totalling 18k yards four bike rides totalling 152 miles, including a road race four runs totalling 23 miles one strength session

time trial - but not what you think
I did a running time trial at the indoor tonight. I'm racing the 3k at the UW Last Chance meet in 12 days so Tom had me do a 2k TT tonight at my goal pace. My 3k target is 9:10-9:12 so we were shooting for 6:07-6:08. I had a lot of company for the

whidbey island camp
The past week of my training was dominated by another Recycled Cycles / Raleigh team training camp . We went to Whidbey Island for 4 days of fantastic weather and fantastic riding. We validated our belief/recollection that there is no flat ground on Whidbey

another weekly review
This week followed a similar pattern to last week but was a bit lighter on volume -- Dave and I didn't swim on Wed morning and I cut out the Thursday night bike intervals b/c my I felt a bit too tired to have a good workout. I did get some chunks

weekly review
I was very happy with my training this week. The volume came in at 19.4 hours but I was very happy with the high-intensity workouts on Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu and Sat. I think/hope that I took it easy enough on Fri & Sun that I'll be able to hit it

Shelled
Last night and today I just felt *drained.* We have had a bit going on outside of sport this weekend, but I can probably point at Saturday's workouts as the biggest proximal cause: 8am: track workout at Roosevelt. 2 x 2 miles target 5:35-5:40 pace

Old Man Winter
The highlight of my last week of training was the Recycled Cycles Racing Team's training camp in Bellingham. We planned to get in a long ride on Saturday and another long ride on Sunday but the weather didn't cooperate. Saturday was one of my
